TOWN OF DINOSAUR NEWSLETTER                        AUGUST

The town council would like to keep the citizens updated on news that is happening in your community, so our goal is to send out newsletters with the water bills.

The sewer lagoons are scheduled to be finished completely by early next summer.  This has been a very big project for the town involving 3 different phases and several years of work.  Our lagoons will be state of the art when they are finished.  We are wrapping up the final paperwork for the loan that will fund part of phase IIIB of the project.  This loan was approved by the citizens of Dinosaur in the 2018 election.  The rest of the funding is coming from a grant from Colorado Department of Local Affairs (DoLA) for phase IIIB.

On June 5, 2019 the Town of Dinosaur was awarded a $200,000.00 grant for cleanup of contaminants of concern at the school.  The grant requires $40,000.00 in matching funds from the town, which was added to the 2019 budget.  The funding for the school cleanup project is almost in place as all the paperwork is finished.  The school building and property were donated to the Town of Dinosaur through a quit claim deed in 2016.  The cleanup is scheduled to be done by next summer.  Then we can move forward with getting the building ready for a community center.  The school building has a lot of equipment and supplies that need to be taken out of the building before the contaminates can be removed.  We would like to have the community involved in making decisions about what our community center will be used for and volunteers will be needed from the community to remove the equipment and supplies.

We welcome the community members to come to the council meetings which are the 2nd Tuesday of every month at 6pm.  This is where community members can talk about their concerns and ideas.

The Town of Dinosaur also has a website through the Colorado State webpage that is kept up to date. Check it out.  The address is: https://www.colorado.gov/pacific/townofdinosaur

for those of you who have a computer and internet access.  There are also computers available to the public at the library.

Speaking of the library, the town council passed a motion to help with the funds for the library by contributing $15,000.00 to their budget.  The hours of the library are:

Monday and Tuesday: noon-7pm

Thursday: noon-5pm

The phone number at the library is 374-2700

Brian is so helpful and has great resources at his disposal.

The town has been collecting marijuana tax money and putting it in the general fund.  Those funds are then part of the budget for the town.  Taxes collected by the town are a matter of public record.  Expenses for the Town of Dinosaur are published monthly in the Rio Blanco Herald Times and are part of the consent agenda for the town council to approve at the monthly council meetings.
