Town Council

To my fellow residents in Dinosaur,

Please allow me to introduce myself to you.

My name is Michael R. Taylor and I reside at 317 E. 5th Street with my wife Elizabeth, and we have enjoyed the honor of living in this community since August 2019.

I have entered the town election to seek a seat if elected to your board of trustees.  I am offering my service and experience to this town and my fellow residents.

The experience I have was in public service with the State of Colorado DOT for 23 years, which the last three years were in engineering and construction.

With the economic downturn of 2008, I was offered and accepted a position with the State of Alaska DOT in roads and aviation in rural Bethel AK and later transferred to Ted Stevens International Airport in Anchorage, AK.  I would offer that a major airport is like a small city, a lot to do and very busy.  I worked for the State of Alaska for 11 years until I retired in 2019 and relocated to Colorado.

Also, I am a retired military member having served in the Army National Guard and Air Force National Guard in a civil engineering squadron for 20 plus years and had been deployed to many locations around the world.

With your trust and support if elected, I would like to offer my experience to the board and help guide the town to continually maintain and improve its infrastructure and facilities as needed or possible that would support and grow a stable strong economy.

I was appointed to town council in 2020.  I am learning the town business quickly and I support the efforts of the town council in making Dinosaur a better place to live and work. 

I moved to Dinosaur 14 years ago from Salt Lake City and I'm married to Gayla.   I'm originally from Taos, NM.  

During the COVID outbreak, I was laid off from my job and already had a class B and I knew if I went to the school and received a Class A, it would be easier for me to find work. I found a job in my community and luckily, I do not have to drive over-the-road, which allows me to attend all council meetings. I utilized workforce funding to attain a Commercial Driver’s License, Class A and was employed shortly after. The position started as a temporary assignment, and I have been working for the company for the last year earning a sustainable wage.  I'm currently employed by Big D's trucking.

I was recently asked what a typical day at work looks like for me?   The first thing I have to do is an inspection and walk around on the truck to make sure it is safe to drive. In the morning, the driver’s get their schedules and I spend about ¾ of my day hauling water to oil fields. The other part of the day, I go wherever I am needed.

I love my job. The best part about it is working independently; it almost feels like I am my own boss. I'm glad I did the training and if asked I would tell others just go and do the training, it will be worth it.

It is a pleasure to introduce myself to the community of Dinosaur. My husband, son and I moved to Dinosaur August of 2020. Since then, we have enjoyed visiting local businesses, Dinosaur Monument, and surrounding areas. We love going on day trips to see the Rocky Mountains, target practice, rockhounding, and admiring wildlife. 

I currently manage Christie’s liquor and have had the pleasure of working with several residences of Dinosaur. Major job roles at Christie’s include reaching financial goals, inventory management and purchase decisions, oversee daily activities of employees, and ensuring the day-to-day operations are running smoothly.

Prior to living in Dinosaur, I worked for Haliburton for nearly 10 years. Most of that time my family and I lived in the Uinta Basin. My major accomplishments while at Haliburton include revenue reporting for North America, managing change, and quality assurance. I have a talent for data analysis and understand profit and loss reports.

While working at Halliburton I partnered with the Red Cross and hosted quarterly blood drives for many years. We meet our donation goals every time and helped provide for the blood needs of Roosevelt, Utah, and the surrounding areas. Serving the area that I work and play in is important to me. 

I graduated from Uintah High School in 2004 and attended Utah State University. I graduated with my Associates of Science in 2018. 

It is my goal to serve the residences of Dinosaur by working as a team with fellow town Council representatives. Fostering economic development is important to me as a business manager and town representative. If elected I hope to build upon the sense of community, we all have for the beautiful town of Dinosaur.
